Alana here today.
As you all know, we’ve been going through some health difficulties with Rocky. Recently, I asked everyone for purrs and prayers because he was going in for his ultrasound. Unfortunately, it was not as good as we had hoped and we are now awaiting the results of a biopsy. In the meantime, I feel that it’s important to provide Rocky with the best care possible. In my last Rocky Report, I wrote about how we were using the sound of singing bowls to sooth Rocky and help him relax. After publishing that report, I was approached by another blogger named Carolyn Kristof (of Cherry City Kitties) who made an offer to provide distance Reiki healing sessions for Rocky. Since the Cherry City Kitties had popped into my mind several times over the Christmas season for reasons I couldn’t explain, I took it as a sign and accepted her kindness.
For those who don’t know, Reiki is a practice of energy therapy that directs life force energy to the recipient, promoting relaxation and healing. Carolyn had done a couple of sessions on her own for Rocky after I gave her permission when we couldn’t seem to get our schedules to line up. During this time, I noticed that Rocky had started feeling better and eating more. This last Sunday, I received a phone call from Carolyn while I was at home asking if I would like to do a joint session for Rocky; she would do Reiki and I would play the bowls for him at the same time, providing beneficial energy for all involved. It turned out to be a beautiful experience.

When Carolyn called, Rocky had been in the living room alone. I stood up to take the call and Rocky ran to me, purring and sticking to my legs. He followed me into the bedroom, and just as I agreed to the session, he sat down on the bed near the bowls and started to relax, as if he knew what was about to happen. I hung up, prepared Rocky’s space, and began to play.
Rocky closed his eyes, purred deeply, and accepted my playing with half-closed eyes and skyward tummy. I played until I felt that the time had ended, as suggested by Carolyn, and I closed the session. Immediately after, Rocky stood up, stretched his little body, and left the room. A few minutes later, he came into my office and leaped up into the chair next to me, filling the room with his great big purrs. I put my arms around him and whispered something to him, a little secret between my kitty and me, and what happened next was, to me, a small miracle. He did something that he hadn’t done since his illness began: he boarded me. Never an outwardly affectionate cat, Rocky’s favorite way to display love has always been to put his arms around my neck, hop up onto my shoulder, and nuzzle his face into my hair. As I whispered to Rocky, his face filled with understanding, and he put his arms around my neck and leaped up onto my shoulder like a kitten, grabbing a mouthful of my hair and tugging at it playfully. And I cried with joy.
As of writing this, Rocky and I have just finished another joint session with Carolyn. I brought the bowls to Rocky where he napped, and as I sat down, he once again let out a loud, loud purr, put his tummy in the air, and soaked it all in. Then, when he was done, the energy dissipated and I knew it was time to end the session. The bowl wouldn’t play anymore, Rocky sat up on the rug, performed another great big stretch, and marched toward the bedroom door demanding his dinner.
In the last two weeks, he has started eating more, pawing at the door to go outside, and greeting me in my bedroom each morning, all things he hadn’t done while feeling ill. I know that the results of his ultrasound were not good, but that’s not what I want to focus on. I want to give Rocky the best possible life I can give him, and bring him peace and happiness while I still have that option. He has shown tremendous progress since beginning his Reiki and sound therapy sessions, and as long as he asks for them, I will provide. He is part of my soul, and I am part of his, and it’s never more obvious than when we connect during his sessions of healing and peace.
If you’d like to speak with Carolyn about Reiki for your pet, you can reach her at With A Gentle Touch. My heartfelt thanks to her for her kindness to me, to my kitty, and to all others who have received her help.
With Gratitude,
Alana.

It’s so good to hear that Rocky is responding well to the Reiki sessions! I’ll keep praying they do more for him. 🙂 My mom is a Reiki instructor and she’s always trying to get me to involve it more. I’ve never considered it for my pets but I love the idea!
I love your drawing. Beautiful. Sounds like he is responding very well to what you are doing. Sending purrs and hugs to Rocky.

So glad to hear the sessions are working for Rocky.
We won 3 reiki session with Miss Carolyn in an auction. They were very interesting. Maybe we should do more. We’re glad the reiki is helping Rocky…and you, too! Purrs….
Awww, moved me to tears. In treating an illness sometimes we forget about treating the soul as well. The the love and the energy from theses sessions sound like they give him (and you!) a moment to re-connect and feel happy once again. I need to learn more about Reiki, have not heard of it before this, but wish I had known about it when my Rollie Pollie was it. All the best to you!
That drawing is exquisite, and I so enjoyed reading about your experiences with Reiki. I considered it when Tara was so sick but ended up never doing it 🙁
Reiki is wonderful and I’m so happy to hear it’s helping Rocky. Love seeing my friends Carolyn and Pam mentioned. Good peeps. Sending continued love & light.

I’m sorry to hear that the results of the ultrasound aren’t good, but it’s such a wonderful thing that Rocky has shown so much improvement with your sessions! Carolyn is really awesome, and I’m glad she’s helping with your sessions, too.
Alana I am visiting because I wanted to meet you and Crepes who recently joined my cat Sammy’s Cat Scouts Troop – the Worldwide Wildcats! I just loved this post about your boy Rocky – I know a couple of other bloggers who practice Reiki (Ingrid of Conscious Cat and Layla of CatWisdom101) and I know they have stories of wonderful healing to tell. I hope it helps Rocky and you…..I love your blog – I’m going to follow from now on. I’ll be sending energy your way as well – in the form of a hug (!)
Pam (Sammy’s Mom)
What a wonderful thing you’re doing for Rocky. Keeping him comfortable and feeling good even if the vet results aren’t encouraging is so important, and it sounds like you’re really thinking outside the veterinarian’s box of tricks to help him. Big purrs for Rocky, and for you and the family, too.
We kitties are so energy-sensitive – it doesn’t really surprise me that you have gotten such great results with Rocky between the Reiki and the bowls. But it’s even better than I imagined it would be! Lots of purrs to him, and to you.
What a special thing you are doing for Rocky and how wonderful that he has been feeling better. Sending big purrs and prayers Rocky’s way.
I’m pulling for Rocky, sending good vibes to him as well as you. His meditation space looks wonderfully soothing. I have a singing bowl and I’m going to try using it with our kitties. I’m so glad you and Rocky have each other! Best wishes. =^..^=
Love the portrait! Purrs of healing to Rocky.
