Cribs by Crepes: The Stu Edition

You guys!

I wanted to give you a quick update on Stu, for those of you who are following his story. MomFOD found a boxelder beetle living in her aloe plant. She brought the plants inside before the first freeze and there was Stu! We made him a little tree garden on top of the cabinet and he’d been living there for a few months. Then, tragedy.

Stu flew off and landed on a hot light and burned his little wing. MomFOD felt terrible. She found him on the fishtank where he’d been stuck since who knows when. She moved him back to the trees, but he kept wandering away, either in search of food or other accommodations. The morning DadFOD found him floating in our water dish, I decided I had to take action. Stu needed a new place to live, and that’s why I, Crepes, took it upon myself to design him a new Crib by Crepes. Have a look:

I gave him thick glass walls to keep out the wind and cat paws (not mine, those of the other troublemakers that live here). I also clipped off some tree branches from our little tree to give him a place to climb. I installed some river rocks for that natural feel and some matching, light-green moss that I soaked to make moist. Then I put in one of the Stallones. Who are the Stallones, you might ask. They are the family of air plants living in the bedroom and, as a collective, they are known as “The Stallones.” (MomFOD’s a big Stallone fan. I think she likes his guns.)

Anyway, Stu is now safe and we’ve even noticed a bit of recovery on his wing. We don’t have his perfect diet available (box elder seeds) but we are providing him lots of soft plant matter, and he’s looking better! We hope to release him outside in the spring, but if he doesn’t heal, he’s welcome to stay with us.

If you need some inspiration for your crib, leave me a comment! I’d be happy to suggest some design elements that I think would make you more cozy. Nothing says home like a Crib by Crepes!

Love,

Crepes.

PS. Also, no matter how tiny the life or how short a time it’s expected to last, please give it the same respect you’d give anyone else. The more peace and comfort we can bring to this world, especially to the tiny, gentle ones, the better our world will be.

  • I am always so impressed with mewz talents and knowledge Crepes. Mew are not even that old yet are so wise, as a senior ladycat myself I do not think I could be so smart to fix such a perfect crib for Stu to recover in. Mewz outlook and philosophy about life is so compassionate, it puts me to shame when I think of all the mousies, snakies, and birdies I’ve hunted and played games with. I did not mean to start hunting creatures, it’s that instinct we inherited from our wild cat cousins. Surely we can be excused for that can’t we?!

  • Crepes, your mom and I would be BFFs for life if you all lived closer. I would do the exact same thing. Thank you to you and mom for doing so much for Stu! <3

  • Crepes! I had no idea you were an interior designer among other talents like Cat Scouting! Stu must be in heaven in that wonderful environment you made for him to recover from his “sunburn”. We agree with you that all life deserves a shot. No matter what size. He’s actually a good lookin’ bug – wonder what he tastes like (just kidding………mostly).

    Hugs, Sammy

  • What a wonderful new home for Stu! Great job Crepes!
We agree about the tiniest life being important. My man human picks up worms that have crawled onto the sidewalk and moves them to safety all the time…
