You guys!
My friends at the ASPCA contacted me with some really important information and a fabulous giveaway.
I have been informed that more than 1/3 of Americans purchase gifts for their pets during the holiday season. How generous! But, have you ever felt like you don’t want to spend the extra money at an already financially difficult time? Maybe you’re a recycler (like momFOD) and you prefer to make your gifts instead. Either way, the ASPCA has given us some neat ideas for inexpensive gifts for your pets. Check it out:
- Fill plastic Easter eggs with wet cat food as a fun food puzzle. (MomFOD did this for us in the spring with treats. Look!)
- Rip off a piece of aluminum foil, put cat food or cat nip in it, and crumble it up into a ball. This serves a fun batting toy for hours of kitty entertainment.
- For a shreddable feeding toy for cats, place dry food/treats inside a cardboard paper towel or toilet tissue roll and fold ends over.
- Ask your local carpet store for small carpet scraps to make a cat scratcher. Use a staple gun to cover lumber scraps with the carpet pieces.
On that last one, I’d like to add that you should make sure the carpet is of good quality. You don’t want kitty inhaling any nonsense. You can also take that a step further. Buy a round concrete mold, cut it in half, and carpet that using a staple gun. It makes a lovely sitting place. MomFOD has done that one, too. In fact, she put it in a giant tree that had fallen down in the forest!
What does NOT make a good gift, though? Puppies or kittiens. The ASPCA has put together an excellent one-minute video on the life of a puppy mill puppy. It’s not hard to watch, and it makes a great point.
