You guys!
Now, I consider myself a worldly cat. I love Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Motley Crue. These are tastes I have picked up from MomFOD, who is a musician by trade. She has often claimed that her kitties are extra smart because we listen to her play music daily.

Several months ago, we published an article on sound therapy, something MomFOD did daily with Rocky while he was ill. He frequently responded well to it and often snuggled up to the gongs and singing bowls. He also seemed to really appreciate harp music. At Niles’ most recent vet appointment, he too was serenaded by the sounds of piano music.
It seems now that there is some research out there into music that is designed specifically for cats. Why not, after all? This has been taking place the MomFOD’s alma mater of UW-Madison.
The science seems to be based on how animal’s brains work differently from people’s. For instance, apparently tamarins prefer silence to German techno music. I’m not sure how that makes tamarins different from the rest of the population, but that’s cool. Anyway, here are some samples that they’ve come up with for cats, along with some comments from me:
Spook’s Ditty: http://musicforcats.com/samples/spooks_ditty.mp3
This one has a WAY faster tempo than one would normally find in people-oriented music. It’s extremely frenetic and rather stimulating, I must say.
Cozmo’s Air: http://musicforcats.com/samples/cozmo_air.mp3
This one sounds a bit like musicians are tuning their string instruments to the sounds of a cat purr.
Rusty’s Ballad: http://musicforcats.com/samples/rustys_ballad.mp3
This one seems the most palatable to people and features something akin to horse hoofs beating slowly on the concrete. I have no idea what this is, actually.

Crepes.

It IS fascinating!!! I tried to click on the links to listen but it said I couldn’t 🙁
Very cool, Crepes. The mom likes to leave music playing for us when she and the dad-guy are gone. In fact, she bought a CD that is supposed to be music for animals. It’s kinda classical stuff that’s suppose to calm us. She plays it mostly for Zoey because Zoey needs calming more than me and Ernie. ~Wally
Our Mom and Dad are musicians by trade as well! Because of that, we have learned how to play a few instruments ourselves. Caster is prolific at the guitar, Sampson is an elegant pianist, and Delilah bangs on the drums. Way cool that there are now compositions for cats! NOW the next step is music for cats, BY cats…. 🙂
I live in a musical family …. well they think they are musical MOL And yes I agree that certain types of music is very agreeable to cats 🙂
This is great! We LOVE music…
Noodle and crew
My human started playing these when I was watching Bird TV – it was really annoying because the songs were drowning out the REAL birdies! So first lesson with cat music: choose the appropriate time to play it!
This is music to my ears! Hey, Louie is getting big but judging from his paws will be a large mancat 🙂

One of my kitties really liked the first one. I never noticed before if mine respond to music. Will have to try it.
