Have you guys ever wondered why I don’t speak in “cat?”
Well, part of it is because I studied grammar so hard while I was living in the “‘hood” and I wanted to show off those skills. It’s even in my bio that I do not, in fact, use this dialect as part of my daily writing festivities. However, it seems to be the case that many people enjoy Cat Speak. Alas, today, dear friends, I’ve decided to give it a whirly, just for squirts and giggles. Let me know what you think! Eh hem….
Do Uz think Iz cute
When I talkz about my stumps?
I can haz catnip?

Yikes. That was a lot harder than I thought! Do uz speaks in any of you speak in cat? Do you find it gets you more loot/better seats at events/better quality nip? What about people? Do you find any benefit/negatives to talking that way? Fill me in, here. I don’t really think this is for me.
Love,
Crepes.
PS. In case you missed it, CATastrophes made the front page of the Chicago Huffington Post! Here’s the excellent article they wrote about us. Have a look!
ConCATulations on the great article, I couldn’t agree more with its title alone!
As for Lol cat speak, Sparkle’s comment says exactly how Ms. Phoebe felt and I agree. I think it works great for some kitties, yet does not for others. It is a personal choice and fit for each feline. My simple opinion is that I don’t think it’s a fit for you Crepes- I love the way you use your hard earned education of the English language.
Yeah, I agree. No more lolcats for me!! This experiment was quite enough! – Crepes.

Well, that was an excellent try! And you did good 🙂 We used to use more cat talk when we were younger. But, sometimes it’s hard to get all the humans to understand you. So, we found we got along a lot better to use our good people talk. We still use a lot of cat terms and stuff, but we try and put it as clear as we can. We think it’s all a personal style, no one’s any better off or worse for it, to us.
(((Hugs)))
We think cat-speak is cute, but it is hard to understand for the humans. To make it easier on them, we speak properly. Your cat-speak is very good though, Crepes!
I am basically with Sparkle. I think if cats could talk they would NEVER speak like the above. That being said, I have been known to throw in “catabulous”, “pawtastic”, “meowvelous” and other plays on normal words, but I try to never do it so much that people have no clue as to what they are reading.
we R sekrit spiez

Crepes, we agree with Sparkle on this. Most humans can barely figure out our body language much less the written or spoken word! We love your haiku. We also just saw your video on how to keep your cat from scratching the furniture. Mom is still LHAO (probably because she occasionally gets stuck to the “cattoman”). Purrs, Serafina and Arya
Apaws, apaws! Wooooowooooooooo!
As we are not native English speakers, LOLcat-speak is hard to understand for us ; we’re able to do it, but it takes time ! We sometimes use words like “pawsome”, “pawty”, “furriends” because it’s cute and easy to understand for everyone in a normal english sentence. Purrs
I think there are all kinds of ‘cat language’. It is all how the human perceives the cat talks. We each have our own ideas. But you sure gave is a good try Crepes. Hope all of you have a great day.
hai, my heatie is the heating pad mommie puts out on the sofa fur when i yam cold, i’ll in lufs wif mr heatie
I prefer human-speak over cat-speak for comprehension of sentences. But I DO think cat-speak is cute as captioning of cheezeburger photos!
We usually don’t talk like that…though how we write how we would talk and we all know how we talk isn’t exactly perfect grammar. So we write stuff like “dontcha” and “woulda” because that’s how we would say it. Does that make sense?
Concats on the Huff Post article! AND, I occasionally speak in cat but mostly speak in human…..I slip up once in a while though – hey – I am a cat after all!
Hugs, Sam
We love Sparkle’s take on it. We use a few non-standard terms like flashy box, but we try to spell correctly to make it easier for everyone to read. LOLspeak is cute, but it slows down reading comprehension, and we want people to have time to visit lots of other blogs, too.
We speak however the mood strikes us. Our Okie twang sure does show, though. MOL!
Have a great Tuesday, furriends.
XOXO
Great article Crepes and Alana! Your magnet on my fridge makes me smile every day 🙂
Oh excellent. I hope it inspires you to ride a magic carpet, too. Those things are great and really save on gas. – Crepes.
I refer to LOL Cat speak as kitty ebonics. I am an intelligent kitty and I talk properly so all humans can easily understand me.
