Special Needs: What Does That Mean?

I want to take a moment to really discuss being a special needs cat.

In my case, I am missing my back right foot. How does that affect me? Well, I can’t jump very high, but I can jump. I’ve gotten very good at figuring out alternate routes to the counter top, actually. Sometimes, I do lose my balance and fall. And my stump hurts, and sometimes it bleeds, too. But my Fods pick me up, spray it off, and make sure I’m ok. It heals quickly and I’m usually off running again pretty fast.

I also heard that I used to have a sister. She was also missing a foot. We’re not really sure how it happened, but they told me that she died when we were tiny and I don’t remember her. I really don’t know why we both came to be this way. I sure hope it wasn’t because someone intentionally hurt us. Maybe we were born like this? I’m not sure.

There are lots of ways to become a special needs cat. Some cats can’t use their back legs, but they get really strong with their front paws and run around just like I do (except not quite as fast.)! Some kitties I’ve met are missing an eye, or are blind in both eyes, but they can still hear really well and still give great snuggles! Actually, come to think of it, all the special needs cats I’ve met are great at loving their parents and other cats. And every single one of them deserves a home! If you live in Chicago, like moi, you’re lucky enough to be near Tree House. They are a no-kill, cage-free cat shelter that does everything they possibly can to save every kitty, even the ones who don’t look so perfect on the outside. And without them, I wouldn’t be here blogging today.

I’ll be posting more in the future about kitties with special needs, but in the meantime, please consider adopting one of us. I promise you you won’t regret it! Unless you leave your computer open and your kitty starts her own blog like me and then you have to buy another computer for yourself because she’ll be busy typing every day, which takes a little longer if she’s missing a front paw. But then you won’t regret the kitty, just the computer.

Thanks everyone!

  • Crepes you rock! and so do your FODS for what they and you do for cats with special needs. We love your movie and think you should have had a larger part.

    • Hi Gerry & Mungo!
That’s so kind of you to say. I think I should have had a larger part, too. Maybe in the sequel. We’ll keep trying to help special kitties in any way we can. We were hoping to win the Catdance and use some of that to fund some kitty surgeries, but it’s not looking too good right now. But please keep voting and maybe we can still do it!
      Keep it real,
      Crepes.
